Progress Software (PRGS +1.61%) tumbled 10% in after-hours trading after it reported Q3 adjusted EPS of 44 cents, below consensus of 45 cents, and said it sees Q4 adjusted EPS of 55 cents-58 cents, on the low end of consensus of 58 cents.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX -0.31%) lost 2% in after-hours trading after it cut its Orkambi revenue view to $950 million-$990 million from a prior view of $1.0 billion-$1.1 billion.

Transocean (RIG +6.37%) may open lower today after Carl Icahn said he reduced his position in the company to 5.45 million shares from 21.5 million shares on June 30 for tax purposes.

Vulcan Materials (VMC +1.26%) slipped almost 1% in after-hours trading after it said it sees 2016 adjusted Ebitda trending toward $1 billion, below consensus of $1.09 billion.

Himax Technologies (HIMX -6.85%) gained nearly 2% in after-hours trading after it was rated a new 'Buy' at Roth Capital with a price target of $10.

Pier 1 Imports (PIR +2.15%) lost 1% in after-hours trading after it cut its view on full-year adjusted EPS to 24 cents-32 cents from a June 29 view of 32 cents-40 cents.

Globalstar (GSAT unch) rose over 3% in after-hours trading after it said initial test flight results "indicated continuous communication" in the testing of its ADS-B Link Augmentation System in a NASA test flight.

Aegerion Pharmaceuticals (AEGR -9.45%) jumped over 20% in after-hours trading after Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor & Welfare approved Aegerion's Juxtapid capsules for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) closed at 86.90 dollar after a solid gain of 4.40 percent. The stock has never gained more in one day since Feb 3, when it was up 5.22 percent. The stock is trend wise positive in the medium term, but is testing the resistance at 87.00 dollar.

Nike Inc (NKE) ended with a steep loss of 3.78 percent and closed at 53.25 dollar. We must go back to Mar 23 to find an equally steep drop. That time the stock lost 3.79 percent. The stock has thereby closed down 17 out of the past 24 days. It was also high volume. Overall it was traded for 1768 millions dollar in the stock, which is four times as much as normal daily turnover. It does not look good technically either. The stock is trend wise negative in the medium term and a further decline is indicated.

Caterpillar Inc (CAT) moved up and ended at 86.59 dollar, which is an increase of 4.48 percent. We must go back to Jun 2015 to find a higher close for the stock. The stock broke up through the resistance at 85.93 dollar in an inverse head and shoulders formation. This triggered a buy signal on increasing volume and a further increase to 118 dollar within one year is indicated.

Chevron Corp (CVX) closed at 102 dollar after a solid gain of 3.20 percent. We must go back to Mar 9 to find an equally strong rise. That time the stock gained 4.60 percent.

Procter & Gamble Company (PG) moved up and ended at 89.46 dollar, which is an increase of 1.24 percent. The stock thereby reached a new high for the 29. time this year. Technically it also looks good. The stock is trend wise positive in the medium term and a further increase is indicated.

The market showed a small gain Wednesday, and S&P 500 Index (SPX) ended the day at 2171 points, which is an increase of 0.53 percent.

NASDAQ moderately up Wednesday

Alphabet (GOOGL +1.01%) fell 1% in after-hours trading after it was downgraded to 'Underperform' from 'Neutral' at Wed bush.

Cintas (CTAS +0.21%) rose 3% in after-hours trading after it boosted its full-year EPS continuing operations estimate to $4.55-$4.63 from a July 19 view of $4.35-$4.45.

Sonic (SONC +0.18%) slid 2% in after-hours trading after it said Q4 adjusted EPS will be 43 cents-45 cents, below consensus of 48 cents as preliminary system-wide same-store sales were down -2%.

Landec (LNDC +1.81%) reported Q1 EPS of 12 cents, above consensus of 10 cents, although Q2 revenue of $132.4 million was below consensus of $134.5 million.

Tempur Sealy International (TPX -0.07%) plunged over 20% in pre-market trading after it lowered guidance on full-year net sales to down -1% to -3% from a prior view of growth in the low single-digit range.

Harmonic (HLIT +1.30%) rose 4% in after-hours trading after a warrant agreement with Comcast will give Comcast the opportunity to acquire Harmonic shares based on specific HLIT product sales and deployment milestones.

Fiesta Restaurant Group (FRGI -0.65%) climbed 2% in after-hours trading after it suspended the separation of Taco Cabana on "challenging market conditions."

McDonald's Corp (MCD) closed at 117 dollar after a small loss of 0.55 percent. The stock triggered a sell signal by the break down through the support at 117 dollar in a head and shoulders formation. A further drop to 103 dollar within ten months is indicated.

Pfizer Inc (PFE) developed negatively and fell 1.81 percent to a close of 33.64 dollar. We must go back to May 19 to find a lower close for the stock. The stock is trend wise positive in the medium term and is approaching the support at 33.20 dollar.

Chevron Corp (CVX) showed a small loss and ended the day at 98.78 dollar, which is a decline of 0.44 percent. The stock broke down through the support at 98.90 dollar in a head and shoulders formation. This triggered a sell signal and a further drop to 91.67 dollar within six months is indicated.
